Mill de Roos
Jacking up, supporting and jacking down the monumental Mill de Roos.
Project details
In the past, a busy railway line ran above ground on a viaduct, right through the centre of Delft. ProRail decided to lay this railway line underground. To this end, a tunnel was built that is several kilometres long, under Delft. The route of this tunnel crosses the monumental Mill de Roos exactly, including its outbuildings. In order to enable the construction of the tunnel, we placed the mill on a temporary foundation and jacked it up 1 metre using computer control. The CrommeLijn Combination was then able to realise the tunnel walls and the tunnel roof under the mill. Afterwards, we lowered the mill again and placed it on the roof of the tunnel. The mill dates from 1679, so the permitted deformations were very small. By jacking it up using computer control, we had precise control over this.
