A major step has been taken in Knokke (BE) for the safety of cyclists. Where there used to be a traditional level crossing, there is now a bicycle tunnel under the line between the De Taeye Stadium and the Laguna sports centre. This provides a safe connection between the Laguna sports centre and the De Taeye Stadium, a crucial part of the Cycling Masterplan. The Cycling Masterplan is a guiding policy vision of the municipality of Knokke-Heist for the purpose of additional stimulation of cycling. Civiele technieken deBoer played a crucial role in this project by assembling and inserting the concrete tunnel structure.

From preparation to insertion in one weekend

Our client, Willemen Infra, built the tunnel, after which we positioned it. Thanks to our previous collaboration, we knew exactly what was needed for a smooth execution. We assembled the auxiliary structure in just three days, after which the insertion operation of the 600-ton tunnel was successfully completed in one weekend. With a team of three for the assembly and six for the sliding weekend, everything went according to plan. The thorough preparation ensured that the installation of the tunnel was a controlled process—a piece of cake.
