Galecopper Bridge
The Galecopperbrug in the A12 near Utrecht is the second busiest bridge in the Dutch road network. Civil technieken deBoer plays an important role in the maintenance of this bridge.
Project details
The Galecopper Bridge is an all-steel cable-stayed bridge and consists of 2 bridge decks. It is a technically complex bridge. In the past, we lifted both bridges 1 meter so that the clearance became greater. During that period, both bridges were also reinforced with large steel girders that were connected to the existing bridge. The Galecom combination also provided the road decks with very high-strength concrete at the time.
Civil technieken deBoer played an important role as part of the combination in strengthening the bridges:

Scope deBoer 1st phase

The entire support system has been replaced and modified: the bridge has been completely jacked up and the ball segment supports have been replaced and support points have been moved;

Both bridges have been lifted 1 meter: the bridge has only been jacked at the pillars and not the abutment: the bridge has been jacked ‘convex’;

The additional steel girders are prestressed: in order to transfer forces from the old bridge to the new girders, the girders are activated using jacking technology;

The pylon supports have been replaced: the supports have become larger due to increased loads;

There are many fences, barriers and walkways under and in the bridge.

It also turned out to be necessary to replace the cables of the South Bridge with some urgency. This is a very complex operation because it concerns the main support system of the bridge. And then also while the bridge remains in use. Replacing the cables also means that many adjustments have to be made to and in the bridge. Here too, deBoer, together with Rijnstaal, played an important role:

Scope deBoer 2nd phase

The pylons have been reinforced with extra steel: because loads will increase, the pylons had to be stronger;

New anchor points have been made in the bridge deck: the new cable-stay system has been anchored in new places in the bridge. Very high-quality steelwork has been made in the bridge;

The pylon supports have been replaced again: the supports have been increased again due to increased loads.

The existing pylon cover had to make way for new, larger saddles. We designed and installed a new pylon cover.
