Project Summary

During the 2024 construction holidays, we were asked by de Jong Zuurmond on behalf of Rijkswaterstaat to carry out an emergency repair to the long trap of the ferry landing in Texel. Recent inspections showed that structural repairs to the steel parts of the scaffolding and the exchange of bolts were necessary. This extensive job was prepared within 3 weeks. Since the work had to be carried out above the water of the Wadden Sea, a working method was devised and prepared for which ILT (Inspectorate for the Environment and Transport – Supervisory Authority of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management) also gave permission. During the work, there was continuous supervision by an ecologist to ensure that the measures were carried out correctly. The location of the long trap and the execution of the work in the high season ensured that all work was carried out entirely at night for 6 weeks. For this emergency repair, we were in charge of the technical management of this project. Together with our subcontractors, we have achieved top performance by making the scaffolding safe again in a short time and in challenging circumstances. For this we have carried out the following:

Exchanged hundreds of bolts with and provided them with a clamping construction; Exchanged dozens of bolts for pre-tension injection bolts and pre-tensioned and injected them; ;

Welded dozens of cracks in the scaffolding; ;

Many m3 of scaffolding realised including shielding to make the repair locations accessible; ;

Performed MT and UT investigations on the weld repairs and wall thicknesses of existing steel profiles; ;

Local treatment and 3-layer preservation of all repair locations; ;

Injected cracks between the steel plates with diamond injection; ;

The structural repair of 9 light pole feet on the scaffolding by applying steel reinforcements; ;

The application of retaining structures on the landing apron.

All this was carried out without hindrance or obstruction for the Texel ferry!
