Measuring and monitoring
Civil engineering deBoer is a specialist in measuring and monitoring structures and vital parts of structures. We understand the behaviour of structures and translate this into measurement campaigns that provide information. With this latest specialism in the branch of our activities, we provide measurement campaigns, Structural Health Monitoring (SHM), and warning systems for critical infrastructure.
Contact UsTo measure is to know
Nowadays, retrieving reliable data is indispensable in our sector. The use of monitoring systems to retrieve this information is increasing. To translate this information into usable data, specialist knowledge is required. DeBoer has this knowledge of structures, works of art and monitoring systems in-house.
Monitoring as a means
A good plan is essential when deploying a monitoring system. Why does information need to be retrieved, which failure mechanism is important and which sensor is most suitable? The practical implementation, the installation and maintenance of the system are also carefully considered. A warning system that has to function for a longer period of time requires a different approach than a small, short-term measurement campaign. Together with our clients, we look at how their information needs can best be met.
When there is urgency
Because we understand that in some situations speed is of the utmost importance, we have a "plug and play" monitoring kit. This is a system with which we can install and commission a Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG, fiber optic) system within 24 hours. This allows us to provide a high-quality monitoring system immediately in urgent cases.

A wide range of options
In our monitoring systems we distinguish between electrical and optical (FBG) monitoring systems. The FBG sensors are based on fiber optic technology and are able to achieve very high accuracies. These sensors are very accurate, robust (insensitive to electronic interference) and can achieve a high measurement frequency of 1000Hz. Both systems send their data to our cloud environment where they are visible through user-friendly dashboards. These dashboards are (live) accessible to our clients. Data can also be easily downloaded here. Finally, we also have the option to provide our systems with an alarm system: If limit values are exceeded, a signal is immediately sent to us and our client so that decisions can be made in good time about possible preventive or corrective measures. Customised solutions Monitoring issues can often be filled in with the systems in our arsenal, but not always. If our client has an exotic issue, we are able to develop a customer-specific system ourselves. So feel free to challenge us with your monitoring issue! The overview below gives an impression of our possibilities
- Measuring displacements: Such as the travel path of supports or the joint opening of bridges, but also large distances such as the distance between columns.
- Measuring vibrations: We can measure both intense high-frequency vibrations, such as those from expansion joints, but also low frequencies such as the (natural) frequency of objects.
- Measuring loads: With our load cells we are able to weigh objects accurately and to make loads in constructions visible. Extra special is the ring load cell that we have developed with which we can structurally monitor forces in bolt connections using fiber optic technology.
- Measuring rotations: With our tilt sensors we are able to visualize very small angular rotations.
- Measuring strains: Our strain sensors provide measurement of strain changes from spot measurements to distances of one meter. Over a distance of one meter we can measure length changes to an accuracy of 0.02mm.
- Measuring temperature: This can be the (internal) construction temperature, but also the outside temperature. Often this data is combined with data from other sensors.
